Suicidal thoughts are a common aspect of depression . These can vary from vague ideas that you would not mind not living longer, all the way up to specific and detailed plans for how to kill yourself. At the lower end of this spectrum , you may be able to dismiss the thoughts fairly easily. But at the more severe end , you need to get help to avoid the risk of acting on them. Most depressed people do not commit suicide , and most people who have suicidal thoughts do not act on them, but it is important to take the risk seriously if your suicidal thoughts are getting more severe.
People recover from depression and when they do, they are happy to be alive; don’t take the risk of blocking out that possibility for ever by acting on suicidal thoughts.
If you have frequent or svere thought about suicide and particularly if you have started to plan details of how you would actually carry it out, then you need to tell someone and get help as soon as possible . If you are not already seeing a mental-health professional whom you can tell about these thoughts , then contact your GP.
You might also find it easier to cope with suicidal thoughts by postponing any action , rather than committing yourself to never acting on them.Rather than trying to think how you can get through the rest of your life , it may be easier to plan just to get through the next day without hurrying yourself.

Oh my gosh! I’ve had suicidal thoughts when I was young and even attempted it when I was a bullied teenager. I landed in ICU and almost didn’t make it. Then, in 2011, my late husband took his own life and I was the one who found him later. It took me a long time to get over it and I will still never forget the images.
Despite what I’ve seen and been through in my life, I’m a very confident woman now and will never ever allow anyone to take me back down that road again. It just isn’t worth it. I only wish I couldve gotten that memo to Michael before he decided he couldn’t take it anymore. I have a feeling he was being bullied at work though I can’t prove it.

In UK the samaritains, free confidential service set up in 1960s (after a teenage girl killed herself because she had started menstrating and not known what the blood was) reckon at least 50% of people have suicidal thoughts at some point.
I reckon the figure is closer to 100% which means it’s actually completely normal to think about killing yourself. Your world calls apart, Covid19 my make some people feel like their world’s fallen apart. Of course you look for any possible escape route from the normal distress. Not looking for an escape route from distress is not normal. Attempting to kill yourself is NOT NORMAL. Just don’t do it it’s stupid. Trust me I know and I fight tooth and nail now to stay alive.
Your not the whatever it is you’ve lost. Your not your job. Your partner isn’t a vital part of you if they were you wouldn’t of been able to first meet them. Your not the life shattering event that’s knocked you to the ground. You are you and you are extremely important because their is only one of you. And yes the world is a better place with you on it. There is also a really annoying fact about attempting to kill yourself I’d like to share with anyone who’s really determined. If it’s not your time it’s not your time and I’m sorry you won’t succeed. I’ve lost count of the amount of people I’ve met who’ve made me think “how on earth did you survive doing that to yourself!??”
The other annoying fact is when it is your time it is your time and there’s nothing you can do to stop it being your time. It’s not fair it’s not nice but no human on this planet can ever decide when you leave. It’s the one choice we don’t have.
